random

It's been a while since I've done a "real" post. I've almost forgotten how. November is National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo) so I may participate to get back in the swing of things. Until then, here are some random goodies to tide you over:

Yesterday we went to the Wild West Fall Festival at a nearby outdoor mall. Jboy was super excited to wear his (free!) cowboy hat & ride the pony. I love the sweater that he's wearing. I'd seen it at Target but didn't buy it. Little did I know that Chris' mom had also seen it and DID buy it! Yay! I think it would be great for a "photo shoot", but I can't ever get Jboy to cooperate with me. I may have to get a 3rd party involved.

Jboy loves to help in the kitchen these days. He's always wanting to stand on his stool & stir, spread or anything else I'll let him do. In this picture he's putting the sprinkles on the cupcakes for his preschool class. He was quite generous with the sprinkles! Unfortunately I didn't really get any pictures while I was at the school. Just a couple of him blowing out his candles. His teacher got a few though, so maybe she'll share. ;o) I'm still so new at this preschool thing I'm not sure what's acceptable or expected as far as class birthday "parties" go. I'll learn as we go I suppose.

Opening presents at his birthday party. I know, I still haven't posted any pictures from his party, they're coming, I promise.

Speaking of birthday party... here's his birthday cake. We had a bit of drama with the cake this year. I had baked the cake on Friday & left it in the pan to cool. Well, I guess I should've taken it out of the pan when it was still a bit warm. I left it in the pan overnight & when we tried taking it out to decorate on Saturday it was quite stuck. About half of the cake stayed in the pan. Unfortunately there was no way to disguise it. I began frantically calling around to see if anyone sold un-iced sheet cakes. Finally Publix came to my rescue. It was like 1:30 and the party was at 3:00. I drove like a mad woman to pick it up. Got it home & decorated with not much time to spare. I've learned my lesson. Next year I'll definitely take it out of the pan when it's still a little warm & just cover it with saran wrap or something. All in all, I think it turned out really cute.

A couple of funny conversations with Jboy recently:

As we're leaving for school one morning:
J: It's a beautiful day.
Me: It is! Who makes beautiful days?
J: (pause) Jesus!
Me: You're right! Do you think we should tell him thank you?
J: Thank you, Jesus!
(pause)
J: He didn't say, "You're welcome"!
Me: Well, he did you just couldn't hear him. (How funny is he? He's done this a couple of times now.)

The other night he's wanting to play hide & seek:
J: Mommy, hide.
(I put my hands over my face)
J: Actually, that's not a hiding place.
Me: (Laughing) How in the world do you know the word actually?

This one wasn't very funny at the time. He was being grumpy & decided he was hungry:
J: Mommy, I'm hungry.
Me: Well, you can have either Teddy Grahams or chips. (I know, healthy choices, right?)
J: (starting to whine/cry) I want five choices!
Me: (getting frustrated) How about this, you're three years old, you can have 3 choices.... Seriously, this kid cracks me up with the things he comes up with.

Well, I think I'll sign off now. Here's hoping I can be a better blogger in the future.

Cute cake! Last year (I think) I made one similar to that. Blake wanted a train and a road with cars on it.

I wonder what he will come up with next year.....
