first day of school

In some ways it feels like the summer took forever, and in others it completely flew by. Either way, it’s over. Today was Jboy’s first day of school! He’s been talking about it all month, and we even have a calendar in his room that we’ve been marking off every day until today. He loves the calendar so much, and marking off the days, I bought a more permanent one so we can keep it up.

I seriously can’t believe how big/old he looks in these pictures. There is no trace of baby left in him. This makes me very sad.

(please forgive the quality of the pics, my photoshop wasn’t working tonight for some reason so I wasn’t able to edit.)IMG_9827

Gracious he looks so grown up!

Our day got off to a bit of a rough start. While giving Jboy his bath this morning I accidentally whapped him in the mouth with a pitcher I was using to rinse him off. His gum bled a little bit, but after a bit of crying, he seemed fine. I was taking his picture a little later and thought one of his front teeth looked a little lower or something. After some investigation I realized that his front, left tooth was loose! I wasn’t really sure what to do, so I gave him some Motrin for the pain & took him to school. The more I thought about it, the more worried I became. Chris had a dentist appointment this morning so I had him ask them what we should do. The basically said we need to wait it out and keep an eye on it, but if we were concerned we could bring him in & they’d look at it. I decided I really wanted them to take a look, so I took him in this afternoon. She looked at it, took an x-ray and said she feels fairly confident that it’s going to fall out. Nooooo! She said there’s still a chance that it will tighten back up on its own, but that she thinks it’s loose enough to fall out. She thinks it could take a couple of weeks for it to happen so just watch it for infection & don’t mess with it. I really don’t want to think about my little man walking around without one of his front teeth for like two years, so I’m praying that it will tighten back up. I know there are for worse things in the world than a child missing a tooth, but I still don’t want him to lose it. And the fact that it’s my fault makes it all the worse.

Other than that little snafu, the rest of the day went really well. He loves his new class & teachers. I’m really looking forward to what this new year holds for us!

Love You, Forever

I've had this book for years. Since way before Jboy was born. I don't remember if I bought it, or if my mom did. Maybe someone else. I'm sure I read it at some point back then.

Tonight I read it for the first time since Jboy was born. Whoa. By the end of the book I was a sobbing mess. Jboy kept looking at me & asking "what's wrong with your mouth"? Ha! I was trying so hard to not let him see me cry that I must've been doing something strange with my mouth.

Have you ever read this book? It's the story of the relationship between a mother and her son, though it certainly applies to moms/daughters too.

Throughout the book I just kept imagining Jboy & I as the years go on. He's already growing up way too fast for my taste, and this just made it more real.

If you haven't read it, run out & buy a copy. You won't regret it. It would make a great gift for a new mother or a friend who's expecting. A box of tissues would be an appropriate (and necessary) companion gift.

a poem

There once was a girl named Misti
Who thought having a blog seemed nifty
Then life got in the way
She could think of nothing to say
Because all of her thoughts were too drifty

I know you're jealous of my poetry skillz. I rank right up there with Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost and Edgar Allen Poe. You can stop laughing now.

Pretty much there's been a whole lot of nothing going on around here. School starts in a little less than two weeks though, so that's about to change. Yesterday Jboy's new teachers came to the house to meet the little man. They're both so sweet & I'm really looking forward to this school year.

Let's see.... what else?

Chris had a follow up visit with his Endocrinologist a couple of weeks ago and got a great report. The doctor was very impressed at how well he's been able to keep his blood sugar under control. He was told that he could start weaning off the insulin every 3-4 days depending on his morning numbers, and last night was his last shot! Praise God! For right now he's still taking oral medication, but when we go back next month they may start tweaking those & weaning him
from some/all of them as well.

We (and by we, I mean Chris) painted Jboy's new room. After several trips to Home Depot, and several paint samples, we finally selected a color. Choosing paint is an indecisive person's worst nightmare. The paint color we chose is File Cabinet by Martha Stewart.

It looks great, and now I'm itching to get the rest of the room together.

Well, I have a few errands to run today and Jboy is going to Chris' grandma's, so I'd better get ready.

Should I even bother saying I'll try to do better posting more often?

well, dang

My 4 year bloggiversary came & went and I completely forgot to post. Better late than never I suppose.

4 years (and 3 days) ago I started this little old blog. I was about 30 weeks pregnant with Jboy & thought it would be a great place to document (the remainder of) my pregnancy and our new journey as parents.

A lot has happened in the 4 years (and 3 days) since then:

* Jboy is almost four (!) years old
* We're ready to add another child to our family
* I quit my job & began my lifelong dream of becoming a stay-at-home mom
* I've lost & gained a lot of weight
* My parents have moved several times, to multiple states (and even 6 months with us)
* Chris' mom was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins B-cell Lymphoma & went through chemo. (She's over 2 years cancer free now, Praise God!)
* My dad nearly died after an issue with an ulcer (he's fine now too, Thank God!)
* We potty trained Jboy

This is a very small list.

I love my life & can't wait to see what the next four years hold for our family. I hope you'll be here too!
